on october 29, china longyuan power group corporation limited (hereinafter referred to as china longyuan power) won two wind power projects in the third round of renewable energy project bidding initiated by the ministry of energy of south africa with a total capacity of up to 244mw. this is a new breakthrough made in the process of expanding overseas wind power market by china longyuan power after the 100 mw canada wind power project.
the two projects won by china longyuan power are located in north cape province of south africa. in particular, the installed capacity of de aar phase i wind power project is 100 mw and that of de aar phase ii north district wind power project 144 mw. they will be jointly developed by china longyuan power, mulilo renewable energy limited (in south africa) and the black community company where the project is located, with china longyuan power as the controlling shareholder. financed by the local bank consortium of south africa, the project adopts the 1.5 mw wind turbine produced by guodian united power.
in august 2011, the ministry of energy of south africa launched the bid for renewable energy sources, including 1850 mw bidding capacity of wind power project. up to now, three biding rounds have been carried out. the first two rounds witnessed a total capacity for wind power bidding project of 3500 mw, and the final capacity is 1196.5 mw. compared to the first two rounds, the third one had a more fierce competition. in addition to china longyuan power, many world famous wind power developers and investors including edf, enel, edp and mainstream also participated in the bid. based on the comprehensive assessment on such aspects as bidding price, local social and economic development plan and black economic promotion program, the ministry of energy of south africa selected the most powerful new energy development enterprise as the bid winner in the end. the bidding capacity for wind power in the third round was planned to be 653.4 mw and the final capacity of the winning project was adjusted to 787 mw.
under the strong support and guidance of china guodian corporation, china longyuan power won the bid for south africa wind power project by cooperating with guodian united power and positively carried out the strategy of “going out”. this is quite significant for accelerating china longyuan power’s pace of implementing internationalized strategies, promoting home wind turbines’export and strengthening china-south africa cooperation and exchange on renewable energy technology.
